A customer can have a great looking piece, but still want something a little extra to make it memorable. Spot UV is a great way to achieve this!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>How to Add Spot UV with:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"mb-2\"><a href=\"#section1\">Adobe InDesign<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-2\"><a href=\"#section2\">Adobe Illustrator<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-2\"><a href=\"#section3\">Adobe Photoshop<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How Spot UV works is quite simple. After the piece is printed, a clear gloss is applied over the top of the artwork in any area you designate. This is my favorite way to add Spot UV. We call it a \u201cblind\u201d Spot UV. It works great on business cards, postcards, EDDM\u00ae, hang tags, invitations, and even presentation folders. Spot UV is available on our Matte and Silk papers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once your design is complete, and you\u2019ve decided where you want your Spot UV to go, you\u2019ll need to create a \u201cmask file.\u201d This mask file is a file that tells our machines where to put your gloss. There are several ways to do this, depending on which program you are using to design your files.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below you will find three video examples, whether you&#8217;re using one of the three main design programs (Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Photoshop) to illustrate how you can create your mask files.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ll start with <\/span>Adobe InDesign!<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In this illustration, we want the vines in the background to be in Spot UV, while the logo is knocked out of the gloss.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Spot UV Tutorials<\/h2>\n<h3><a id=\"section1\"><\/a>Adobe InDesign Spot UV Overview:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Duplicate your page. The original will become our \u201cPrint File\u201d while the duplicate will serve as the Spot UV file.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Make all objects that DO NOT receive Spot UV white. This will knock them out of the mask. Then turn all areas that you want Spot UV on to 100% black (c0, m0, y0, k100).<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">For the backfile, we want the logo, name, icons, and line to be Spot UV. Make these areas 100% black. Delete or turn white all the rest.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Save each page as an individual pdf. Make sure to outline your fonts and include bleed on each file.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">You are ready for print!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We&#8217;ve created a helpful InDesign Spot UV Video Tutorial. Follow the steps from above to add Spot UV to your files with Adobe InDesign.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4zM8LfIOCoA\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>Next up, Adobe Illustrator. For this example, we want the logo to be a blind Spot UV on the backfile. So we want all traces of it removed from the backfile.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"section2\"><\/a>Adobe Illustrator Spot UV Overview<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Duplicate for the front file. The original will become our \u201cPrint File\u201d while the duplicate will serve as the Spot UV file.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">On the new artboard, remove all objects that WILL NOT receive Spot UV.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Turn all Spot UV objects to 100% black (c0, m0, y0, k100).<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Repeat this process on the backfile.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">In order to make the back logo a Blind Spot UV (clear gloss over background), remove the logo from the print file.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Save each artboard as an individual pdf. Don\u2019t forget to outline your fonts and include bleed. This program can be a bit trickier. There tends to be more planning and steps involved. The below video will walk you through those steps.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"section3\"><\/a>Adobe Photoshop Spot UV Overview:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Combine all layers into one folder\u2014label folder Front.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Pull all layers that you want Spot UV on top of into its own folder and duplicate.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Now, label that folder Spot UV. Make sure this folder is outside the Front folder.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Double click on the Spot UV folder and do a color overlay at 100% black (c0, m0, y0, k100).<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Turn your Spot UV folder off and save the file as a pdf or jpg. This is your Front Print File.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\">Turn your Front folder off and save the file as a pdf or jpg. This is your Spot UV Mask File. You need a clean, unpixelated line to get a correct gloss covering.
