One of the great things about Primo Print is that we really are a one-stop shop. Just about everything you may need can be designed and ordered from the same place. One of the benefits, your marketing materials can be designed to match your brand.

Each piece can be printed on the same paper stocks with the same color values, and you don’t have to jump from company to company when trying to figure out what to order from where. We try very hard to make sure all your needs are met and that the ordering process is as quick and easy as possible.

That being said, we recently had a company called Newport Asia come to us with some design and printing needs. They already had part of a logo, but it needed a couple small tweaks. I adjusted the file to get it print-ready and then began working with them to create business cards, two different sizes of envelopes, letterhead, notepads and a presentation folder.

We took a very simple, classic look for each item and all of their pieces were printed on linen, except for the folder which we printed on matte. When completed, everything matched wonderfully. Each piece coordinated so well together as they all had the same color values and textures.

Now, when Newport Asia sends material to customers, they will feel like they have a complete brand. It’s amazing how having these simple items can really elevate the appeal and sophistication of a business.

A few weeks ago a new customer came to us in need of a logo. She was starting a Medispa and had an idea to use a Peacock as her visual. She even had a drawing of the bird that she though we could use as starting point or reference. The peacock was to make the shape of an “S” and she wanted to include two birds facing each other, almost making a heart in the center.

The drawing she provided was very detailed. We needed to simplify it in order to allow it to produce well at a small size. It also needed to be shaped a little differently so that if formed an “S”. As our graphic designer started on the outline of the design, they wanted to get her feedback – to make sure the design was going in the right direction. The client liked the start of the bird, but thought that the neck needed to be curved more and that the “S” shape would be more defined.

Graphic Design ProjectOnce the outline was adjusted and approved, it was time to add some color. We sampled a few different color pallets, but found a beautiful photo of a Peacock feather. This would make the perfect pallet.

Finding the right font was challenging. We needed to find one that was simple and clean, so it didn’t take away from the bird design, but also allowed the logo to feel fluid and soft. After playing around with different fonts, we decided on Alright Sans Light & Dancing Script.

Alright Sans Light is a contemporary font. It offers a friendly tone and is described as clean and warm. This font works well across different types of print media and can be reduced in size and can still be clear to read.

Dancing Script is described as a casual script. The letters seem to change in size slightly and bounce. This is a popular font for designs that are informal, friendly and offer an informal look.

The customer was very happy with the end result. The logo will be used on their website, business cards & other printed material such as flyers, notepads and more.

A recent customer came to us with a need for a logo. They are a new company called Guardian Solutions who offer financial planning, located in Atlanta.

After going over the background of the company, as well as the fundamentals of what they do/believe in, we decided that an eagle would the perfect symbol for Guardian. We played with a few variations of the eagle, but thought that something more geometric and fluid would work best. After drawing the eagle, we decided to make the type very simple, so that it didn’t take away from the power of the eagle.

We also played around with a few color combinations. Did the eagle need to be traditional colors in order to read clearly? Could the eagle be brown or blue and still have the same impact? Although the customer did like the alternatives, we decided that the grey, yellow and black were the most powerful.Guardian Custom Logo DesignOverall, the customer was very happy with the end result. They were provided with all logo files and will be using the design on a variety of products. We designed business cards to start and will be working on brochures, presentation folders and letterhead in the upcoming weeks.

When owning a business, there are certain things you’ll need such as a logo. Depending on your business, you may also need additional printed materials including business cards, brochures and flyers, letterhead, postcards and more.

You basically have one of two options. You can either pull out your computer and put something together yourself or you can hire a trained professional graphic designer to design a custom logo that truly defines who you and what you can offer. Many graphic designers have spent years working with businesses and have learned how to use a creative approach that allows them to speaking to their current and potential customers. Graphic designers can create a piece that is visually appealing and allows a business to proudly display their brand everywhere the business goes.

When researching your designer there are a few things to look at.

  • First, view their portfolio. Every designer should have a website or some sort of digital portfolio available that you can browse through, and get an idea of their style. Look through each piece carefully. If you don’t care for the work on their site, you probably wont care for the work they create for you. View some of our custom designs here.
  • With the digital world we live in, don’t be afraid to look outside your neighborhood. There are thousands of amazing graphic designers, all over the country. And through email and/or phone calls, you can easily work with a designer in another time zone.
  • Look for recommendations. Ask other business owners who designs their pieces. If you see a business with an amazing logo, they probably can recommend the designer that created it. Read some of our print reviews.
  • Pay attention to price. As the saying goes, “you get what you pay for.” If a logo design cost seems cheap, it probably will look that way too. Graphic designers usually charge between $50-$125 per hour. That may seem expensive, but think of this as an investment into you business. Not only is it tax deductible but an amazing logo and business card is going to stay with your business forever. Postcards, brochures, etc. may need to change depending on your message, but once you have an initial design, it’s easy for a designer to pick up the design and alter it slightly to fit the new message. It’s much faster than creating a design from scratch, and it also helps brand your business by tying everything together. At Primo Print, we offer graphic design services and we keep the files to help with the quick edits and changes.
  • Learn up-front what you get for your money. A good designer should have an outline as to what they will provide you when creating your design. For example, $250 for a logo may include 4 initial logo concepts, 3 rounds of revisions and the final logo provided in 4 different file types that you can use however you need. Also, make sure your design is one-of-a-kind and that the designer will not use the design again in the future for another company.

Once you have chosen your designer it’s important that you think about what you are looking for. Designers are creative and they can usually come up with beautiful work, with little direction. But if you have something specific in mind, make sure you express it to the designer upfront. There’s nothing worse than having a designer spend hours designing and having them think the logo is a perfect, but the client come back later and tell the designer that there’s something specific they want as a design.

Each designer will have their own process, so read their emails carefully and make sure you answer each of their questions to the best of your ability. Sometimes it’s best to to give more information than what you think is relevant, but make sure you keep it focussed and to the point.

For a logo design, here are a few things to prepare for your designer:

  • What is the name of your business?
  • Is there a special meaning behind the name?
  • Why did you name it this?
  • What is the main purpose of the company?
  • What do you make, sell, or provide?
  • Do you have any specific images in mind?
  • Any specific colors you’d like to see used?

Any logos or artwork that you like or would like the designer to reference? Feel free to list links. You obviously don’t want to copy a design, but if there are logos that you like the look of, the visual reference helps. Feel free to create a Pinterest board and share it with the designer. Any other information you feel is important may be helpful in the design process.

If you are have a designer create a postcard, business card, brochure, etc., make sure you put together all of your text and photos before you give them the job. It is really helpful to have all the pieces before you start laying the project out. Additionally, if you can provide text that is as close to 100% complete as possible, that helps the designer too. Also, the more pieces you provide in the beginning, the less time you will be charged in the end.

Working with a designer should be fun and shouldn’t be a stressful process. With as many designers as there are out there, I’m sure you will be able to find one that you feel comfortable with and who will feel like they are a part of your team.
